More outbreaks of foodborne illnesses: Here's what you need to know

As spring's E. coli and salmonella outbreaks faded after causing, respectively, five deaths and a record recall, news of three more foodborne illness outbreaks within a week hit consumers. These aren't just preventive warnings and recalls, such as when a food company yanks a product before people get sick after the product or food manufacturing facility tests positive for some contamination.

Jason Eugene Workman told police he was running from a warrant when he allegedly led authorities on two car chases Saturday. Citrus County sheriff's deputies caught up with 31-year-old Workman late Saturday night, and charged him in connection with the two pursuits and his warrant for violating probation, according to arrest reports released Monday.

The Supreme Court is rejecting an appeal from a gay death row inmate in South Dakota who says jurors were biased against him because of his sexual orientation. The justices did not comment Monday in leaving in place the death sentence for Charles Rhines.
